Dr. Edward Ma speaks on the problems associated with seven-off/seven-on block schedules for hospitalists and wonders if it should be done away with completely.

According to Dr. Ma, when a group follows the seven-on/seven-off model, it is only effectively using 50% of its physicians at any given time. In addition, those physicians are going to be seeing a lot more patients at the end of the day than they would in a normal Monday through Friday workweek.
