
ACCORDING TO THE LATEST Today’s Hospitalist Compensation & Career Survey, significantly more academic hospitalists (41.9%) report receiving a straight salary than nonacademic hospitalists (32.7%). The percentage reporting being paid 100% salary is also high for hospitalists working at national hospitalist management companies (45.4%) and for those in the Midwest (42.9%).
The percentage of hospitalists who say bonuses are based on individual, not group performance, is higher in three employer types: local hospitalist groups, national hospitalist management companies and universities/medical schools. In all three settings, about 40% of hospitalists say bonuses are based on individual performance.
