A look at hospitalists and post-acute care

How many work in post-acute settings?

March 2016

MOST HOSPITALISTS (more than 80%) aren’t working in post-acute care settings, and most—75% and up—say their groups have no plans to do so.

Local hospitalist groups are twice as likely as other groups to have plans to get involved in post-acute care. Among local private groups, for instance, more than one in four (26.4%) already cover at least one skilled nursing facility.

Hospitalists working for hospitals and hospital corporations are the least likely to work in post-acute settings or have plans to get involved.
