Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is an independent, 89-bed community-based level II trauma and primary stroke center. With 24 growing health care centers, the system covers seven zip codes and employs more than 200 physicians covering 37 specialties. The hospitalist program has been in place since 2008. Morris was recently named a 2016 Truven Health award winner.

Services: Hospitalists’ daily midnight census is 12 to 14 patients, with total encounters of no more than 20 to 22 patients per day. Hospitalists provide care for ICU patients in an open 20-bed ICU, and have support from pulmonary, cardiac care and primary care physicians. They are not responsible for running codes or performing procedures.

Schedule and coverage: Physicians work 12-hour shifts, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., through a 28day cycle, rotating every other week. They are responsible for night call seven nights out of the 28-day period and for one weekend shift every month.

Compensation: Hospitalists receive competitive, guaranteed base salaries, as well as yearly performance bonuses. In addition, providers can expect relocation and starting bonuses, CME and practice expense accounts, and a wellness incentive.
