MARYLAND INPATIENT CARE SPECIALISTS (MDICS) is a local, private hospitalist group that currently serves in three hospitals: Anne Arundel Medical Center, a 300-bed regional hospital in Annapolis, Md.; Calvert Memorial Hospital, a 100-bed community hospital in Prince Frederick, Md.; and the 100-bed Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Md., which is affiliated with the University of Maryland.

The group was founded in 2007 by Douglas S. Mitchell, MD, MBA, and Hung T. Davis, MD, and offers both an employment and a partnership track. MDICS is actively looking to expand into other hospitals and is interested in physicians who want to pursue leadership opportunities.

SERVICES: Hospitalist services vary among hospitals. Hospitalists in all hospitals provide primary care coverage and surgical comanagement, and ED unassigned coverage in two hospitals. The hospitalists at Calvert Memorial Hospital provide ICU coverage.

SCHEDULE AND COVERAGE: Hospitalists provide 24/7 coverage and have nocturnists. Employed physicians work 16 shifts per month, while partnership physicians work 18-20.

COMPENSATION: MDICS offers a guaranteed starting salary between $180,000 and $190,000, with bonus potential to $230,000-$250,000. Benefits include health, dental, life, disability, 401(k), CME allowance, vacation and malpractice insurance.

LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS: Physicians can live in the suburbs of Washington with an easy commute. Billed as “the sailboat capital of the world,” Annapolis offers excellent recreational and cultural opportunities.
